CERG Description

The goal of the Civic Engagement Research Group (CERG) is to provide an evidence base that informs the design of policies and programs that promote the development of citizens for an effective, just, and humane democratic society.

Suneal Kolluri

Suneal Kolluri is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California Riverside's Graduate School of Education, and a member of the CERG research team. Suneal earned his PhD from the University of Southern California in Urban Education Policy. A former teacher and current sociologist of education, Suneal is interested in how policies and pedaogies in high school can reinforce or undermine social stratifications. Much of his work has focused on the role of culturally relevant, community-oriented approaches college readiness. It has been featured in journals including the Review of Educational Research, Harvard Educational Review, and Urban Education, among others. Prior to earning his PhD, Suneal taught English, History, and Government/Economics in Oakland, California for nine years. He holds a B.A. from UCLA and a Master’s degree from Stanford University.
