The goal of the Civic Engagement Research Group (CERG) is to provide an evidence base that informs the design of policies and programs that promote the development of citizens for an effective, just, and humane democratic society.

Specialized Study Program in Civic Engagement for the Digital Age
  • Through UC Riverside Extension, educators can now earn a specialized certificate in Civic Education for the Digital Age. The new 8-unit Specialized Study program will meet the professional development needs of educators who are seeking to integrate civic learning and digital civic learning into their curriculum or program. This new set of courses highlight the need to prepare young people for participation in civic and community life and to consider important changes to the nature of participation in the digital age. Students will learn: Learn about cutting edge research and innovative approaches to developing the civic and political capacities youth need to be active and responsible members of a thriving democratic society Understand various approaches to promote digital media literacy so youth develop the skills needed to analyze, create, and circulate information related to civic and political issues thoughtfully and effectively in the digital age Identify avenues in their own teaching and work with youth to explore and implement digital civic learning curricula and programming
