Jamie Gravell

Jamie Gravell is a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at University of California, Los Angeles. Her research utilizes critical sociocultural theories of learning to understand how teachers make sense of digital technologies in education--the ideologies, practices, and pedagogies--especially in relation to equity and social justice. During her time at UCLA, Jamie has been involved in the teacher education program, as a researcher in the UCLA Lab School, a facilitator for a youth participatory action research program, and a technology integration coach for LAUSD. She is a graduate of American University with a degree in Political Science and Secondary Education, and was a high school social studies teacher and student government sponsor in the Washington, D.C. public schools prior to getting her MA in Race and Ethnic Studies in Education at UCLA. Jamie combines these experiences and interests into a dedication to teacher education and professional development that prepares teachers to engage students in authentic civic engagement in a digital age.
